Biography

Research Notes

Data as originally entered gave his DOB as 8 Sep 1846, but that conflicts with the reported DOB of his sister Mary, 9 Mar 1847. Johnson-66920 22:10, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

  • I updated the place of birth, the 1850 census shows Joseph's parents William and Mariah living in Southampton Twp., Bedford County, the family didn't move to Fulton County, Pennsylvania until sometime between 1850 and 1860.
  • I updated the death date and place of death per Joseph's Death Certificate and Tombstone.
  • Also, Matilda Layton is listed here as Joseph's spouse, that is incorrect. Josephs spouse was Matilda Talitha (Tilly) Smith.

There were no sources listed here in Joseph's original profile for any of the information given.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joseph by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joseph:
