Biography

Andrew was born 28 Feb 1743, the son of Johannes Creveling and Eva Christine Loecher. He married Margaret Patrick Jun 17, 1771 (by Rev Hanna (this was John Andre Hanna, Hanna-1729 a physician and minister, b. in mid-ocean/ Ireland, 1731; d. Nov 4, 1801 Pittstown (Hunterdon Co), NJ; m. about 1760, Mary Graham McCrea, b Abt 1742 in Flemington, Cape May, NJ, daughter of Rev. James and Mary Graham McCrea; served as minister of the Presbyterian churches of Bethlehem, Kingwood, NJ).

Andrew entered the Continental Army from Bethlehem Twp, Hunterdon Co, New Jersey at the outbreak of the Rev War- 1775 - and served until the end - 1783. He was at the Battle of Monmouth, June 28, 1778 (see page of 437 of History of Columbia and Montour Counties, PA by J H Battle, 1887). He was a Pvt of the NJ Continental Line. Moved to PA as he was given land grant for service as a soldier. Land grant behind Mifflinville according to Merle Strauser or possibly where halfway house located across from Elam Mem Park cemetery, Almedia, PA. Resided in Afton, Columbia Co, PA after 1790. Deeded land to build the Hidlay church and cemetery. A farmer and fishery owner. He belonged to the Society of Friends (Quakers) and trustee of UN Pres Congreg of Briar Creek, Nov 18, 1796. He drew up a will in 1813, but lost it. His son Samuel, swore that his heirs were: 2nd wife; sons: John, Samuel, Andrew Jr, Alexander, Thomas, Isaac; and dau: Mary - wife of Henry Smith, Margaret - wife of Benjamin Boone III, and children of dec dau Martha - wife of George Hunt. Buried with 2nd wife in Afton cemetery, Almedia, near Bloomburg, a private Creveling cemetery. He is also listed in the DAR Patriot Index - Ancestor # A027777. Family history had his furlough signed by Gen Washington.

After death of his first wife Margaret, Andrew married Mrs Hannah (?) Waters. Prenuptial agreement, docket K245, dated Jul 20, 1798, county court house, Sunbury, Northumberland County, PA.
