Biography

He was born about 1730 and his parents were Jeanne (DeVigne) and Joseph Louis Crockett, Jr.

About 1738 his family moved to Baltimore (now Harford) County, Maryland where they remained about ten years before settling in Augusta (now Montgomery) County, Virginia. [1]

Hugh Crockett married about 1773 in Virginia to Rebecca Lorton [2] (1749–1836).

During the American Revolutionary War he served as a Colonel in the Virginia Militia by appointment of Gov. Thomas Jefferson. [3] [4] [5]

In 1785 he resided in Barnetts District, Botetourt County, Virginia, USA. [6]

He died about 1816 Shawsville, Montgomery County, Virginia, USA. [7] [8]

Research Notes

Many secondary sources give Hugh's birthplace as Augusta County, Virginia, but Trimble documents Joseph Crockett's presence in Pennsylvania and Maryland before their arrival in Augusta County, Virginia, about 1748. [1]
