Biography

John was born in 1758. It is assumed that the Cromers immigrated from Germany. In PENNSYLVANIA GERMAN IMMIGRANTS 1709-1786, under "Immigrants from Zweibruecken," edited by Don Yoder, page 310: "...FREDERICH CROMER OF RIMSCHWEILER...leaves with [his] wife and children for America."

John served in the Revolutionary War as a private in the Pennsylvania 7th Militia. He married Catherine Brubaker 1784 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. They moved to Maryland and then to Rockingham County, Virginia. In 1788, John (along with his brother, Martin) appears on the muster roll of Captian John Herdman's Company, 2nd Militia of Rockingham County, Virginia.

John married Sophia Whisman on 13 Oct 1803 in Rockingham County, Virginia. They moved to Kentucky about 1805 with their family. In 1821 John was granted land on Wood's Fork of the Little Rockcastle River in what is now Laurel County, Kentucky (formerly Know County, now Laurel, Kentucky). In 1829 he sold that land to his son David and moved to Harrison County, Indiana.

In 1837 John was the subject of a lunacy hearing in Harrison County, Indiana. He died in April of 1839 and was buried at Avery-Godsberry Cemetery in Blue River Township, Harrison County, Indiana. His tombstone reads: "A Revolutionary Soldier."[1][2]
