Biography

Henry Cronkhite was born 1785, in Woodstock, Carleton county, New Brunswick Province, Canada, and christened August 4, 1789, in Woodstock, a son of Henry Cronkhite and Elizabeth (Penuel) Cronkhite. On March 17, 1805, in New Brunswick, Henry married Abigail Feero, a daughter of Christian and Catherine Feero.

Received Father's improved land.
1811: Lived in Shogomoc area
1812: Purchased Fall Island, Parish- at that time it was attached the old parish of Dumfries, from Lathrop Hammond. Lawrence Grant witnessed the Hammonds' signatures on that transfer made in the Shogomaoc area.
1811, purchased 1/2 acre of Lot 71 in Southampton area from Thomas Fields. Made his home and kept a store and inn on Lot 71 for more than 30 years (until 1832).
Purchased Fall Island in 1812, Fined, along with Abraham & Simon, for misdemeanors.
1813: Granted Lot 65. 1813 sued for unpaid taxes, along with Jabez Lockwood Cronkhite.
1820 Built a school house near the present intersection of the Campbell S ettlement Road by Henry, Jr, Amos Dow and others.
1825: Planned to build a saw-mill
Had title of Reverend, ordained in 1832 & disposed of his tavern. Became minister in the Free Christian Baptist Church. Turned property over to his daughter Abisha & husband John Colwell Grant.
Before 1833: Store Keeper and ordained minister. Name found in connection with Lot 66 (Southampton). This Lot was previously "minutted" to Peter Grant.
Had psalm book. Wrote on flyleaf, "Call to the unconverted".

Henry died January 23, 1847, in New Jerusalem, Queens county, New Brunswick Province, Canada, while he was conducting revival services, there.
