JOSEPH FRANKLIN CROSS Joseph Franklin Cross (November 17, 1874-August 8, 1964) was born near Macon, Georgia. He was the oldest of three children born to James and Amanada (Jones) Cross. When Joe was five years old his father died. When Joe was twelve years old, Amanada his mother, and her sister Larcey Jones, came west to Burleson, Texas to visit another sister, Susanna Morrison. They visited about two years and were on their way home when Amanada came by to visit her brother-in-law, Penn Cross. She met George Guess, a widower with four children. George and Amanda married and they had four children. Mary Louize (Lowe) Cross "Mollie" was born to James Knox Polk Lowe (December 21, 1844-March 17, 1932) and Columbia Lee (Garrett) Lowe (June 26, 1847-March 9, 1923). Columbia was the daughter of William A. and Mary Ann (Payn) Garrett who were married December 23, 1841. Mollie was the oldest living child of Jim and Columbia. Mollie (January 23, 1877-March 17, 1956) was born on the Lowe home place. Joe Cross and Mollie Lowe married November 3, 1895 in Grapevine. Will and Sally Austin were their attendants. Joe and Mollie stood up with Will and Sally when they married. They lived in a house on the Jim Lowe place, where they had two daughters: Beulah B. Cross (born September 10, 1896) and Mattie Virginia (born November 4, 1898). Joe and Mollie lived in this house until about 1924; then moved to Fort Worth, Texas. When Jim died and the place was divided into six portions, Joe and Mollie built a home on the portion that she had inherited from her father, which is now on the corner of Highway 114 and Carroll Avenue. Both Joe and Mollie lived on this place until death. Mollie preceded Joe by eight years. Joe, Mollie, and Mattie are buried in White's Chapel Cemetery. Beulah owns the Cross home.
