Biography

Irène was born 12 September 1897 in her parents' home, 24 rue de la Glacière in Paris (13th arrondissement), France[1]. She is the daughter of Nobel Prize winning physicists Pierre Curie and Marie Skłodowska.

Irène married Frédéric Joliot on 9 October 1926 in Paris (4th arrondissement)[2].

In 1935 Irène and her husband Frédéric Joliot-Curie won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their discovery of artificial radiation.

Irène died on 17 March 1956 in the Curie hospital, 12 rue Lhomond in Paris (5th arrondissement)[3], of leukaemia probably caused by exposure to radioactive materials.
