Her name is seen as Phebe or Sarah Curtis. The only reliable record is that of her marriage to Ephraim Hawley where she is named Phebe Curtis.[1] The origin for Sarah appears to be from SAR applications which only list a name and no dates. This may be confusion with Sarah Curtis, daughter of Thomas Curtis and Mary Merriman from Wallingford. Or it could be confusion with her husband's cousin Ephraim, son of Daniel, who married Sarah Watkins.
Birth
It has not been proven she is the daughter these parents. She is not found named among the children of Benjamin and Esther ( Judson) Curtiss in the Curtis Genealogy. [2] No records for the birth of either Phebe or Sarah Curtis are found among the Stratford records where the births of other children of Benjamin and Esther are recorded. However, James b. 4 May 1686 is the last of their children recorded there and the Curtiss Genealogy has two daughters, Hester, born after that date so it remains a possibility. [3] There are no records in Litchfield County, Connecticut Colony to substantiate the 2 Mar 1688 date seen on Find A Grave.[4] One factor in favor of her being the daughter of these parents is that her son Nathan named one of his twin sons Benjamin.
Marriage
She married Ephraim Hawley on 05 October 1711 in Stratford, Fairfield, Connecticut Colony[1]
Death
Find A Grave.[4] has confused her death with the death of Sarah Curtis, daughter of Thomas Curtis and Mary Merriman on 6 May 1760 in Wallingford.
Phebe's death has not been proven, but was most likely in Vermont. An article in the Vermont Historical Gazetteer states that sons Abel, Gideon, Jehiel and Josiah came to Arlington, VT in 1764 and brought their parents, implying she was still living in 1764[5]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Phebe by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Phebe:
I am curious about two things about her. 1) What is the reliable evidence she is the daughter of Benjamin and Esther (Judson) Curtis? The Curtis Genealogy fails to show her as their child and I have not found any primary records to prove that relationship. 2) What is the reliable evidence she was also called Sarah? The only reliable record is that of her marriage under Phebe Curtis to Ephraim. She is also referred to as Phebe Curtis in the Thomas Noble Genealogy regarding the marriage of Abigail Noble to her son Matthew Hawley.
