Biography
Elizabeth was born about 1717 at Ampleforth, Yorkshire, estimated from her age 24 and residence on her marriage licence October 1741. Possible baptism 1 March 1718/1719 at Oswaldkirk about 3 miles from Ampleforth, Elizabeth daughter of William Cossins, but this would give an age at marriage of 22.[1] Ampleforth had its own church but no baptism found at the moment.
Elizabeth Cousins married Thomas Eubank on 10 August 1741 at All Saints, North Street, York. "Thomas Eubank of Gilling, warraner (warrener) and Elizabeth Cousins of Ampleford (Ampleforth) spinster."[2] The marriage was by licence which gives her age as 24, parish Ampleforth, and his as 25, parish Gilling.[3]
Probable burial 17 May 1798, Elizabeth wife of Thomas Ewbank of Gill-Hagg House.[4]
Research Notes
Husband's name - all Thomas's records show his forename as Thomas only. Middle names, and the name Willard itself, were virtually unknown among ordinary people at this time. Could not find an origin for the name Willard Thomas Ewbank. His burial 20 July 1804 is entered as Thomas Ewbank of Gill Hagg House.[5]
