Joseph Cutt (Thomas 1 ) b. Aug. 2, 1736; m., Nov. 2, 1758, Mary Stephenson. Moved with his family from Kittery, Me., to Goshen in 1789; d. 1808. They took up 500 acres of wild land in the north part of the town, at the base of Sunapee Mountain. A log house and barn was built on the old, hillside road, east of the Gay place. As their sons came of age they set off a hundred acres of land to each and built them a house. When the youngest, Samuel, received his share the aging parents went to live with him. Mrs. Cutt d. in 1828, aged 94, having been blind for twenty years.
