D. Possibly 8/7/1837JOHN DAIN (spelled also Dane and Dean) was private in Capt. James Patch's Co. which marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775, from Ipswich to Mystic. Length of service 4 days. He also appears as private in Capt. James Mallor's Co., Lieut. Col. Putnam's Regt. enlisting 18 Aug. 1781 and discharged 4 Dec. 1781. Time of service 3 mos. 28 days. [1]

This man served in the 6th Massachusetts Regiment of the Continental Line (often referred to as the 7th). The regiment saw action at Saratoga, Cobleskill, Cherry Valley, and during the Sullivan Campaign.
John Dain served as an Orderly Seargent in the 6th Massachusetts Regiment of the Continental Line. He was present at the Cherry Valley Massacre and participated in the Sullivan Campaign. An entry in his orderly book suggests he was present at the battle of Monmouth. John Dain is quoted in a number of places in the research linked to below.
