If you want to learn about your great grandmother through DNA, then her DNA would be best. If she is deceased, you have two remaining options. We all carry our mothers mtDNA, so your great grandmothers DNA passed to her daughters, then their daughters and so on down. In addition, all her descendants carry her atDNA, in ever-decreasing doses with each generation.
