Rev. Timothy Dalton year of birth is estimated at about 1577.[1] He was born probably at Woolverstone, Suffolk, England. He was associate pastor, or teacher, of the church at Hampton, Massachusetts Bay (later called New Hampshire) soon after its settlement. He died in 1661; his widow, Ruth, died in 1666; and their only child, Timothy, died before 1652.[2]
Timothy married 13 Jun 1615, Ruth Leete. Ruth was baptized 8 May 1579 at Little Eversden, Cambridgeshire, England. She was the daughter of Robert Leete and Alice Grundy.[3][1]
On 10 Oct 1657, Dalton conveyed his farm, of three hundred acres, lying on the south side of Taylor's river, by separate deeds of gift, to three of his kinsmen, giving one hundred acres to each. The grantees were Jasper Blake, Nathaniel Batchelder and Emanuel Hilliard. It seems probable that Mr. Blake was his brother-in-law. Hilliard’s wife Elizabeth was Ruth Dalton’s niece as shown in the following:
Batchelder‘s wife may also have been a niece of Mrs. Dalton. In an indenture in 1664, she terms Nathaniel Batchelder "my constituted heir ;" and makes provision for Elizabeth (Hilliard) Merry and her three (Hilliard) children. She also gives a small sum to Mary, wife of William Fifield, and to Walter Roper, who were possibly relatives. Mrs. Dalton gave the bulk of her property to Nathaniel Batchelder.
Jasper Blake, styled mariner, the common ancestor of the Blake families of Hampton and vicinity, is supposed to have settled there about 1650. His wife, Deborah, is said to have been the sister of Rev. Timothy and Mr. Philemon Dalton. She was certainly their relative. About 1660, Mr Blake bought the house-lot of Thomas Ward. He also owned other tracts of land, among them, one of eight acres a few rods north of Oliver Lane's present residence, where he probably resided during much of his life in Hampton; and a farm of one hundred acres, received from Rev. Timothy Dalton, by a deed of gift. He died 5 Jan 1674, and his widow died 20 Dec 1678.[5] [6]
Apparently, Timothy and Ruth Dalton may have had more children, with the last child buried 28 Aug 1624-5 when Ruth would have been 45 or 46.[1] Ruth died 12 May 1666,[1][7] “aged 88". Her husband, who was a minister, was suspended by the Bishop in April 1636. Her first cousin married a son of John Rogers the Martyr. On 22 Mar 1663/4 Ruth made legacies to various heirs of her sister Phebe Leete Parkhurst, also to Abigail Ambrose, dau. of the wife (Susanna) of John Severance, Walter Roper, (H)anna(h) Willix, formerly servant of Rev. Timothy Dalton, & Mary, wife of William Fifield (prob. the one m at Hampton, N.H.).[7]

Note that Torrey's New England Marriages before 1700 and other early sources mistakenly suggest that Timothy's wife may have been Ruth Parkhurst, probably based on her legacies to the Parkurst children (who were the children of her sister Phebe (Leete) Parkhurst.
