PRISCILLA DANA,[1] b. at Cambridge, 24 Aug 1731[2] daughter of Caleb Dana and Phebe Chandler; m. about 1763, SIMON HOWARD who has not been identified.
On 12 July 1763, Simon Howard, gentleman of Cambridge with wife Priscilla, conveyed five acres in Watertown to Ebenezer Stetson for payment of £30. On 21 November 1763, Simon Howard, gentleman of Cambridge with Priscilla his wife, mortgaged 13 acres in Cambridge to Caleb Dana for £133.6.8, this amount to be paid with interest by the first day of May next.[3]
On 13 August 1790, John Hall Howard, schoolmaster of Washington, North Carolina, and Caleb Dana Howard, printer of Fayetteville, North Carolina, in consideration of £25, conveyed to Francis Dana of Cambridge a piece of saltmarsh in Cambridge of five acres formerly belonging to their grandfather Caleb Dana. On 24 August 1792, John Hall Howard of Washington and Caleb Dana Howard of Fayetteville conveyed to Josiah Capen of Cambridge 16 acres in Newton which derived from the estate of grandfather Caleb Dana through their mother Priscilla for payment of £16.10. On 5 December 1794 (recorded 9 December 1818), John Hall and Caleb Dana Howard conveyed another property in Cambridge deriving from the estate of Caleb Dana through their late mother Priscilla.[4]
In his will written 29 July 1803, Caleb Dana Howard of Wilmington left his estate, including profits from the firm Howard and Tillinghast, to his brother John Hall Howard and with a bequest to his niece Sarah Dana Howard.[5]
There are records of two children of Simon and Priscilla born at Cambridge.
i JOHN HALL HOWARD, baptized at Cambridge, 6 May 1764. John was a schoolmaster in Washington, NC. In the 1800 census, his household is given as one male 26 to 44 and three slaves.[6] John is likely the father of Sarah Dana Howard named in the will of his brother, but the name of his wife was not found.
ii CALEB DANA HOWARD, baptized at Cambridge, 20 Aug 1769; d. at Wilmington, NC, about 1803.[7] Caleb was a partner in the merchant firm Howard and Tillinghast in Wilmington, North Carolina. Caleb did not marry.
