Biography

John was born in 1762 in Johnston County, NC (he claimed a birth in Wake County, NC in his pension application, but Wake County was not created until 1771. The area was Johnston County before that time. John Daniel, according to Daniel family researchers, was a RELATIVE of William Daniel (b~1745) of NC and Elbert County, GA, but the exact relationship is not known yet. This relative William Daniel and wife Nancy were the parents of Major General Allen Daniel (b. 1772 in NC) of Elbert County, in spite of what family researchers came up with in the 1920s era (which was later determined to be incorrect info). John Daniel, his wife, and young children (including James Jenkins Daniel, Nancy Daniel, and Martha Jenkins Daniel) moved to Elbert County around 1800, as records show their family was in NC until a couple of years before that. John and Elizabeth had many more children after their arrival in Georgia.

Y-DNA links this John Daniel to the extended family of James Daniel and Elizabeth Woodson. But, the exact sets of parents for both have not been determined as of 2022.

John Daniel passed away in 1841, most likely in Elbert County, GA, as he was on the 1840 census there.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

I noticed that you have made a similar error as others -

Captain John Daniel b. 23 May 1762 d. 13 Jun 1841 Elbert County, GA did NOT have the middle name Osborne or a middle initial per service records, deeds, will, etc. Although he is a direct descendant of Captain James Daniel, so far, descendants have not determined the name of his father - dates are 'off' from John, son of Woodson and quite impossible. I have copious notes and will share - not my work but fully resourced by two other descendants.
