Joseph was born on 5 Feb 1799 in North Carolina. He died on 12 Aug 1863 and was buried in Daniels Cemetery, Wanchese, Dare County, NC.[1]

He married Clarissa (b. c1814) whose surname is unknown. They had at least two sons based on the 1850 census.

The 1850 census of Roanoke Island, Currituck, NC, listed Joseph Daniel (51, carpenter, $40 real estate, b. NC) and Clarisa (45, b. NC) along with Gideon (13, b. NC), and Edwin (1, b. NC).[2]

The 1850 census of Roanoke Island, Currituck, NC, listed Joseph Daniel (61, carpenter, $300 real estate, $800 personal estate, b. NC) and Clarisa (50, b. NC) along with Joseph G (21, fisherman, b. NC), and Edwin B (10, b. NC).[3]

Research Notes

Joseph should not be confused with Josephus "Cephus" Daniel of Granville County, North Carolina whose wife was Arrena (not Clarissa) Harris.

There are two different men named Joseph. This one married Clarissa per the 1850 census shown. The other one married Arrena per this census. Daniel-3407 and Daniel-3230 do not represent the same person because: Josephus "Cephus" Daniel married Arrena Harris in 1821,Granville County, NC.

He and Arrena appear on the 1850 and 1860 US Census records.
