Wallace M. Danner, 95, of Canton, passed away at 10:36 AM on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the Clayberg Care Center in Cuba, IL. He was born on February 21, 1923 in Astoria, IL to Ray W. and Reba M. (Chambers) Danner. He married Barbara DeLong on April 10, 1947 in Canton, IL, she survives.
Also surviving is son, Ed (Rose) Danner of Canton; granddaughter, Adriana (Anthony) Stewart; two great-grandchildren, Sherri Ann and Lucas Nathaniel Stewart; and two nephews, Kent and Kerry Danner.
Wallace was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Kaythryn Danner.
Wally worked for Keystone as a machine operator for 30 years, retiring in 1982. He was a past member of the Canton VFW and American Legion. Wally and Barbara would have celebrated 71 years of marriage on April 10, 2018.
By example Wally demonstrated a strong work ethic which was passed down in the family. His work ethic established that a man goes to work everyday to keep a roof over their head and food on their table. He enjoyed watching his son grow and providing for his family. During his military service in the Army he was part of the first wave for three major island beach invasions in the South Pacific. He participated in the liberation of Manilla from the Japanese. Wally earned a bronze star and purple heart for his service. He attained the rank of a tech sergeant.
Services will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Sedgwick Funeral Home. Rev. Monroe Bailey will officiate. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton, IL.
