Biography

Sarah was born in 1770. She was the daughter of John Darling and Phoebe Robards.[1] She first married Timothy Townshend (in New Hampshire).

Sarah's father was one of the pioneers/first settlers of Groton, Vermont, to which in 1787 he brought his two married children then from Plaistow, New Hampshire, namely Robards and Sarah (Townsend) with their families.[2]

Sarah's husband appeared on the 1790 Groton census as a head of household, but no longer appeared in 1800. Presumably he had passed away, since Sarah re-married to Josiah Jennison in 1804 in nearby Peacham, Vermont. They are believed to have had three children: i) Sally Maria b. 1805 ii) John b. 1808 and Lucinda b. 1810. In addition it is possible they may have adopted a girl from Sarah's first marriage.

Sarah passed away in 1823 at the age of 53. Her husband passed away less than a month later. Josiah is buried at East Peacham (Vermont) cemetery.
