His obituary, which appeared in The Tribune (Coshocton, Ohio) on 9 April 1965, stated that he had lived in Battle Creek, Michigan, before returning to Coshocton County. Surviving family members mentioned were four sons (Corlis, of Battle Creek, MI; Vernon, of Lancaster, OH; Albert and Donis, of Coshocton); two daughters (Bessie, Mrs Charles Blair of Coshocton; Florence, Mrs Ralph Sturtz of San Francisco, CA); 21 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. One son and two daughters (unnamed) predeceased him.
