Biography

James was born about 1704.

12 Nov 1735 In the Hopewell Friends History 1734-1934, Frederick County, Virginia, fathers of the colony are the seventy Shenandoah Valley settlers who received land patents on 12 November 1735 from being among those brought in by Alexander Ross and Morgan Bryan. James Davis received 1175 acres on Tullis Run, in what later became Berkeley County, West Virginia.

The will of James Davis of Frederick County, Virginia is dated 4 January 1754 and was proved 7 December 1756.[1] Legacies:

  • eldest son James Davis Jr. to have 200 acres on west side of [Talalusas] Branch
  • son John Davis to have tract of land lying "between my sons James and my brother Robert Davis's Land"
  • son Edward Davis to have 130 acres joining Peter Hedges on the west side of the Branch
  • son Jacob to have his home plantation of 200 acres
  • wife Sarah Davis to have her living and improvement on said plantation with their son Jacob during her widowhood

Executors were Jonas Hedges and son James Davis.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:

I do not believe that the husband of Sarah (Van Meter) Davis had the middle name of DeMitt. Her husband was just plain James Davis who was son of William Davis born 1675 in Northern Ireland. The name DeMitt is not connected to this Davis group. In some way these two James Davis have been merged showin that she had a second marriage. Sarah and her husband lived in Frederick County, VA where James died 1756 and Sarah was involved in the settlement of his estate.

Thank you for considering this. Sue Davis-82334

Davis-35643 and Davis-11877 appear to represent the same person because: Names, dates and places are the same.
