Probate: John Davis Sr. died intestate and his estate was found to be insolvent. These papers refer to "alias Davidson" for his last name.[6]Son Samuel Davis was made administrator and Parley Davis one of the appraisers on 3 Apr. 1823. Much later on 15 Feb. 1842 Simeon Gould, John's son-in-law, married to Anna Davis Gould, petitioned the court that there was a surplus from this estate and that surplus should be distributed to its heirs. On the last page of these probate papers it was "ascertained that the legal heirs of said estate are: Polly Gould [wife of Joseph Gould]; Lucina Martin [wife of Charles Martin]; Fanny Flint [wife of Jesse Flint]; Nancy Cummins and Lewis Davis [children of John Davis Jr., deceased]; Lydia Slayton, wife of Charles Slayton, and Orrin Davis [children of Stephen Davis, deceased]; Samuel Davis; and Anna Gould wife of Simeon Gould."
Though there may be no birth records for this couple's children, the names Stephen, John Jr., Lucina, and Polly can confidently be added to the above list.
