Biography

The parents of Mary Davis are not known.

She married John Sampson on August 6, 1743 in Culpeper Co., Virginia.

John wrote his will June 18, 1778. It has been recorded by a Sampson researcher that he had died while traveling to Valley Forge in 1778, however, it has also been pointed out that he states that he is weak of body in his will.

We know that John was dead by July 20, 1778 for his will was probated at the county court on this date.

He appears to have been laid to rest in the area where the current John Sampson Cemetery is now located in Madison Co., Virginia.

I agree that given the information available, all we can attest to is that Mary died sometime after the probate of John Sampson's will in July 1778. It is also impossible that she was born any later than 1725, given the birth of her 1st child in 1740. It seems there is no reference to either the 1745 date (in the biography section) nor the 1710 birth date shown in the Davis-15086. Based on the birth date of daughter Elizabeth (Sampson) Render (ca. 1740), a birth year for Mary (Davis) Sampson is more likely to be ca. 1715-1720.

Davis-15086 and Davis-71186 appear to represent the same person because: Found during connect-a-thon...a little merging should clear several duplicates. Thanks!
