Biography

James Davis was born in 1768 in Hedgesville, Berkeley, Colony of Virginia, the son of Edward. He married Elizabeth Sanders in September of 1791, in Mercer, Kentucky. He died on September 22, 1829, in Harrison, Indiana, at the age of 61.

Name on memorial, 31 Dec 1810, to Congress by residents of the territory asking for a "post office at Charlestown & the town of Madison with a post Rout on this side of the Ohio" [pages 69-71].[1]

James married Elizabeth Sanders (born about 1773 in North Carolina; daughter of John Sanders).[2] Their son was Jacob Davis (1805–1886).

In 1810, James (41) is enumerated on the 1810 Federal Census in Mercer, Kentucky, United States. [3]

In 1820, James (51) is enumerated on the 1820 Federal Census in Harrison, Indiana United States[4]

James died on September 22, 1829 in Harrison, Harrison, Indiana, United States, aged 60.[5]
