Biography

Birth, Marriage, and Death

Morris Davis was born on 2 July, 1769 to Thomas Davis and Elizabeth Knox Davis, according to records of New Garden Monthly Meeting, Guilford County, North Carolina. There are duplicate birth records for Morris at Cane Creek Monthly Meeting of Orange County, North Carolina, of the New Garden, North Carolina Yearly Meeting.
From minutes of Westfield Monthly Meeting, Surry County, North Carolina, 24 May 1800: "Chestnut Creek Preparative Meeting informs this meeting that Morris Davis requests to have his children join in membership Hamby (most likely Harmon) Nathan and Thomas which this meeting grants." [1]

Morris Davis was 82 when the US Federal Census was taken for District 19 of Grayson County, Virginia on 10 August 1850. In this census record Morris is living with his 37 year old son Amaziah, a farmer with $200 worth of real estate. Also in the home is his 30 year old daughter, Edith. Morris' birthplace is recorded as being in North Carolina. [2]

Morris Davis died after 10 August 1850 when the US Federal Census was recorded and was buried in the Nathan Ward of Coal Creek Cemetery, Grayson County, Virginia. [3]
