Biography

I've studied my family history since I was a teenager and my grandmother entertained me with stories of captains, 49ers, wagon trains, pioneer women, and the flu epidemic. I have spent many a Saturday in the offices of the National Archives and Records Administration when that was the only way to access records.

I have been a Reunion software user since the first release (unless I am mistaken!) and I am still in the lengthy process of scanning personally held information from paper files.

From 1998-2005 I was the clinical director of a nationwide program to improve chronic illness care. The role required travel and I visited many archives and libraries whenever work coincided with family history. I have been fortunate to do research at the NARA in Washington DC and at the Library of Congress, as well as other depositories including historical societies, universities and public libraries. In 1999 I completed the Certificate in Genealogy and Family History program at the University of Washington. As part of the 3 semester-long program, I completed a comprehensive project on my great-great grandfather, Rev. Thomas Oliver Ellis, MD using family letters of the Civil War years in California. That project has been adapted to WikiTree.

In 2005 I hiked from Mexico to Canada on the Pacific Crest Trail with my youngest son (read our Trail Journal here) and immigrated to Canada. In 2012 I founded a non-profit with a group of other like-minded colleagues, CCMI. Family history took a back seat during these years. The advent of genetic genealogy and the addition of grandchildren brought me full circle back to the avid genealogist I was nearly 20 years ago. Because of my background in health care, genetic genealogy has been a natural extension of my interest in family history and making connections to my past.

In 2020 I joined Coming to the Table. I participate in the Linked Descendants group and with their sponsorship I completed training as a Strategies for Trauma Awareness and Resilience practitioner.

In 2021 I completed ProGen 46, a study program for professional genealogists. I specialize in reparative and genetic genealogy.

I have a working database of over 7000 individuals and I am slowly putting my best documented work here on WikiTree. I am glad to be part of a crowd-sourced one-world tree and love to create beautiful profiles and pages that tell the story of my family.

Dear Connie,

The Profile Improvement Project (PIP) is performing a check-in with project members. Please review the following and respond to let us know that you are content with your current team or if you would like to be more involved.

The Project operates in a team structure. There are currently three participant PIP Teams -- The Maintenance Category Team, the Unknowns Team, and the Biography Team. There is also the Voyage Team which guides new Voyagers. See the Profile Improvement Project Teams for a brief outline of each team.

There are currently three different Biography Teams - The Biography Team, the Abandoned Team, and the Popular Team.

You're currently identified as a member of the Biography Team. The Biography Team works on profiles from their watchlist and other profiles that interest them.

Are you happy with the Team you are on? If you are interested in working with a different Team, please let us know.

If you have not already done so, we invite you to join the email GoogleGroup and text chat Discord channel for our project. (You will need your Wiki ID for both). Neither is required; we also use the Profile_Improvement tag in G2G for Project announcements.

We thank you for all you do to help the Profile Improvement Project meet its goals.
