Benjamin Davis was born about 1771 in North Carolina. He was a son of Thomas Davis and Jane Payne.
He was a farmer.
He married Cloa/Clory around 1798. Together they had the following children: William Jefferson, Isaac, Cynthia, Alfred, David, Jane, Barbara and Benjamin Jr.
In 1830, Benjamin and his sons, Jefferson, Isaac (first husband of Rosanna Crowell), Alfred and David came from North Carolina to Tennessee on to Illinois and made a settlement in the northwest corner of the township. They were some of the first settlers of Bunker Hill, Illinois. In the county of Macoupin.

Benjamin Davis died October 11, 1843 in Macoupin, Illinois, United States. He was buried in Wood Cemetery in Macoupin County, Illinois.[3]
