In early 1840, Charles and his brother William journeyed from Northumberland to start a new life in India. [2]They were going to work for their uncle, Joseph Anderson, who was a merchant. Eventually they all settled in Simla and all three became members of the Himalayan Brotherhood Masonic Lodge.[3]

First Marriage 1m Charles Edward Davison married a wealthy heiress, Sarah Seton Chisholm 3 August 1848 in Simla, Bengal, India. [4] While living in India, they had three children:

Charles Chisholm Davison (b. abt 1850)
George William (b. abt. 1851; died in India)
Henry Jocelyn (b. abt 1853)

Charles and Sarah returned to England in January of 1854. [2] In 1861, they were living in Havant, Hampshire, England. [5] By 1864, they had 6 more children:

Sarah Mary (b.1855 in London)
Robert Edward (b. abt.1857 in Kincardineshire, Scotland)
William Seton (b.1858 in Hampshire)
Amy Septima (b.1859 in Hampshire)
Julia (Isabelle) Georgiana (b.1861 in Hampshire)
John Anderson Davison (b.1864 in Hampshire)

Second Marriage 2m After Sarah Seton Davison (nee Chisholm) passed away in 1866, Charles married for a second time, 2m Margaret Caisley, his second cousin (their mothers were first cousins), in 1868 in Greenwich, London, England, United Kingdom. [6]

By 1871, Charles and Margaret had two children:

  1. Letitia Charlotte (b. abt 1868 in County Durham), and Alfred Norris (b. 1869 in Northumberland).

The family was now living in Ealing, Middlesex, England, where Charles was an architect. [7] [8]

Two more daughters were born in London:

  1. Emily Wilding Davison (b. 1872)
  2. Ethel Henrietta Blanche Davison (b. 1874). Sadly, Ethel passed away in 1880, at the age of six.

Charles and Margaret were living with their two daughters in London in 1891, and Charles was now working as a commission agent. [9]

Charles passed away in 1893 at the age of 70. His death was registered in Fulham, London, England, United Kingdom. [10]

Research Notes

Charles and Margaret's first daughter, Letitia Charlotte, was born out of wedlock. Her birth was registered with the surname of Dawson, [11] but she was later christened with the surname of Davison. [12]
