Biography

Augusta was born in 28 July 1832 in Milton, Chittenden County, Vermont. She was the daughter of Lewis Day and Betsey Cole.

Her name was recorded as Charlotte Augusta in her parents' family Bible, but she was known by her middle name.

She married Harvey C. Barrett 15 June 1855 in Brandon, Franklin County, New York.

She died 18 April 1919 in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Her obituary follows:

Mrs. Augusta C. Barrett, age 87 years, early and highly respected resident of this section of the state for over half a century, died about 11:30 A.M. today at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John C. Richard, with whom she was making her home of late. Complications due to advanced age was the cause of death. She has been in ill health for several weeks and her death was not unexpected.
Deceased was the widow of Harvey C. Barrett who died about seven years ago. After her marriage they settled on a farm near Clearwater in the earlier days.
They were well and favorably known in that vicinity. After retiring from the farm life they made their home in Clearwater until the death of Mr. Barrett. Deceased then made her home with her daughter Mrs. G. C. Newell until a year ago when she came here to live with her other daughter, Mrs. J. C. Richard. She is survived by three children, Mrs. J. C. Richard and Edgar H. Barrett of St. Cloud and Mrs. G. C. Newell of Minneapolis. No definite arrangements have been made as yet as to the date of the funeral.[1]

Funeral services for Mrs. Augusta C. Barrett who died Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. C. Richard, were held yesterday afternoon at Clearwater, her old home.
Mrs. Barrett was born on the 28th day of July 1832 at Milton, Vermont. When but a little girl she moved with her parents to Brandon, N.Y. where she spent her youth and was educated in the common school.
On the 15th day of June 1855 she was married to Harvey C. Barrett at Brandon, N.Y., of which union five children were born, three sons and two daughters, of which one son and two daughters survive, namely Mrs. Ella C. Richard and Edgar H. Barrett, both of St. Cloud and Mrs. Hattie A. Newell of Minneapolis, Minn. The first two named were born in New York state.
In the fall of 1861 the family came to Minnesota and settled on a farm near Clearwater, retiring to the village of Clearwater 26 years ago, where Mr. Barrett died seven years ago. Mrs. Barrett then went to Minneapolis and made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Newell, until a year ago when she came to St. Cloud and lived with her daughter, Mrs. Richard.
When Mrs. Barrett was about 15 years of age she united with the Methodist Episcopal church, with which she has held life long membership. She was a 100 per cent Methodist, loyal to her church, faithful in attendance and offering no apologies for her convictions.
Mrs. Barrett was laid to rest beside her husband in the cemetery at Clearwater.[2]

They were buried in Acacia Cemetery is about 1 1/2 miles west of Clearwater across the county line in Stearns County.
