Biography

He and his wife began farming on three hundred and twenty five acres. He eventually inherited half of the farm and eventually, but he and his wife added it to it until they had five hundred and sixty five acres.

Along with the work it took to farm, they raised four children, as well as taking on an active part in community affairs which included such things as teacher, lay leader and superintendent of the Methodist Sunday School. He was a school director for over twenty years. He served as director and president of the Van Buren County Farm Bureau and was a boys 4-H club leader and director of the local bank, and a member of the county committee of the Farmer's Home Administration.

He did not have much time for hobbies an did not like sports of any kind.


Obituary- Hector Everett DeHart - Born Vernon Twp. Van Buren Co. in 1872 and died at home in Keosauqua December 22, 1927, aged 55 years, 11 months, 15 days. On December 22, 1896 married Mrs. Iona Wolford. Three children, 2 sons, Dwight and Delmar, and a daughter, Gera Margaret, who died a year of age. Lived Henry Twp. On June 30, 1918 his wife died. On October 13, 1921 he again married to Mabel Saunderson of Keosauqua. One son, Daniel Saunderson. At his death was teacher in Bible school. Leaves wife, 3 sons: George Dwight; Delmar Welford; and Daniel Saunderson: 2 grandsons, Blaine and Jo DeHart of Keosauqua and a sister, Will Gaston of Mt. Sterling. F-Center Chapel Cemetery, Keosauqua.
