Ralph was born in 1803. He is the son of Daniel DeLong and Mary Burhans. He passed away in 1845.
Ralph joined the Mormon church in Pa. and traveled to Nauvoo with them. He helped lay the Temple corner stone there. Their sponsor in Nauvoo was James Craig, his brother in law and Olive Bunnell's husband.
"My mother was a Methodist and my father a Baptist. They were very poor and the churches snubbed them. A Mormon elder came along and preached to them and they joined the church in 1843. In 1844 they with a number of others chartered a steamboat and came to Nauvoo. Father and brother William died first. My mother and baby Annie died and were buried in the same coffin. This all happened in two months time. In 1872, I went back and found Aunt Hannah. Uncle Lutheran was dead. They finally found Albert by advertising in a Salt Lake paper. They had spent a good deal of money trying to find us. Then Albert wrote to me and we got together. I do not know much of the DeLong history. I received a letter some years ago from a Henry DeLong from Medford, Mass. who proved to be my cousin, as his father was William G. DeLong. He has since died".[1]
