Biography

Gilbert enlisted at Woodstock, NY, on February 3, 1813, giving an age of 21. Also indicated is that his birthplace was Windham, NY, and that he was discharged at Sackett's Harbor.

"Gilbert D. and Mary (Stanley) Decker, both natives of New York, moved to Canada in the fall of 1833, where [Mary] died. [Gilbert] came to Michigan to pass the closing years of his life with his children, and died at the home of his son, Edward S., in Millbrook, Sept. 20, 1869"[1]

Notes

Death certificate indicates September 18, 1869 as date of death, slightly off from the Sept. 20 date on gravestone. It also indicates Gilbert's parents as Derich and Elizabeth Decker.
