Biography

Elizabeth was born in Jul 1796, the daughter of David Teeter and Elizabeth Stutzman. She married John Ullery on 9 Jan 1817, and they had at least ten children. Seven have been identified by name: Mary, Susannah (died in infancy), David (died in infancy), Elizabeth, Jacob, John, and Barbara. In addition, three unnamed girls under the age of five were reported in the U.S. Census of 1830; none of them correspond to any of the named children. Information about this family in subsequent censuses has not been located.

According to the 1830 Census, a John Ullery family was living in Newton twp., Miami Co., OH, consisting of a man and a woman both in the 30-40 age bracket, and six children. In addition to three girls under five, the census reports a boy 5-10 (Jacob?), a girl 5-10 (Elizabeth?), and a girl 15-20 (Mary?). Other information indicates that Mary was 11 or 12 in 1830, so perhaps the wrong box was marked on the summary sheet. The two remaining children -- John and Barbara -- were born after 1830.

Mary, Jacob and Elizabeth all married, and raised a number of children. Barbara died at 17 years, apparently without marrying or having children. The fates of son John and the three unnamed daughters are unknown.

Elizabeth died in 1865. at age 69, and her will was probated in Miami Co., OH, on 26 Aug 1865 (Elizabeth Ullery Probate Date: 26 Aug 1865 in Miami, Ohio, USA Item Description: Wills, Vol 3-4, 1863-1885).

IMPORTANT NOTE:

This profile is redundant since it refers to the same person as Elizabeth (Deeter) Ullery. A merger of the two profiles is pending.

Elizabeth was born in 1796. She is the daughter of David Teeter and Elizabeth Stutzman. She married John Ullery on 9 Jan1817, and they had five children:

Susannah
David
Jacob
John
Barbara

Genealogical Note

Elizabeth is very likely the same person as Elizabeth (Deeter) Ullery since both lived in Miami Co., OH, at the same time, had husbands named John Ullery (or (Ulrich), and were married on the same date at the same place. The birth year given in the two profiles are inconsistent (1787 vs. 1796), but the first is apparently a guess unsupported by any definite evidence. In any event, the second birth date of Jul 1796 (based on family history) is more compatible with a marriage date of 1817.

Elizabeth and John had at least ten children, identified from several sources. The family appears on the 1830 census as living in Newton twp., Miami Co., OH, consisting of two adults and six children. One daughter (Susannah) died in infancy, and three were apparently born after the 1830 census. The census summary report indicates "free white" males and females, divided into 5- and 10-year intervals. Names, birth dates and ages are supplied in the following table:

M 30-40, John (head of household), c. 1794, age c. 36
F 30-40, Elizabeth, Jul 1796, age 34
F 15-20, Mary, c. 1818, age 12
M 5-10, David,, c. 1822, age 8
F 5-10,Elizabeth, 1824, age 6
F under 5, three girls, names and birth dates unknown

The only inconsistency in this table is for Mary. If she was 15-20 in 1830, she would have been born before 1815, and therefore prior to her parents' marriage. So perhaps the incorrect age box has been marked.

I have moved all of the children earlier associated with Elizabeth (Deeter-114) Ullery to this profile because there's very good evidence that the two profiles represent the same individual. I have also adjusted a couple of estimated dates to improve consistency. Please comment if you see any problems.

Deeter-86 and Deeter-114 appear to represent the same person because: Both ID'ed as a daughter of David Shively Deeter (Teeter-270), with close correspondence of dates, places and husband's name. Husbands also proposed for merge.

Hi April -- I'm proposing the merger of the two profiles for Elizabeth (Deeter) Ullery, Deeter-86 and Deeter-114. I also want to merge John Ulrich (Ulrich-907) with John Ullery (Ullery-71) to get rid of the spurious profile I created for the husband of Deeter-114.

I'm now inclined to think that there is only one Elizabeth (Deeter) Ullery if the 1787 birth date you gave really was just a guess. The genealogy I have shows only five children for John & Elizabeth so there were probably at least six more children so perhaps it is not concerning that neither Mary nor Elizabeth is on my list. This would make Mary the oldest child, born as early as late 1817, followed by Susannah (Aug 1819-Mar 1820) who didn't survive infancy (memorial in Sugar Grove Cemetery). Another child Barbara (Jan 1838-Jul 1855) is also buried in S.G.C., but I have no other info about other children listed by my source (David, Jacob & John). We can probably merge the two profiles for Elizabeth, but let me think about this for a couple of days.

Thank you for the message, Maybe she is born 1796, because at 1787 she is older then her husband if his date is correct. Thank you for marking them uncertain.

According to a genealogy compiled by Bernice (Deeter) Eller (1981), David and Elizabeth Deeter had a daughter named Elizabeth (Deeter-114) who married a man named John Ulrich (or Ullery). This source (based on family records) says that the daughter Elizabeth was born in July 1796, not in 1787, and provides an entirely different listing of her children. Because of these discrepancies, I have marked the parents of this Elizabeth (Deeter-86) as uncertain. Perhaps the identification of her parents as David and Elizabeth should be dropped completely, but I think there should be some discussion before this is done.

Parents probably misidentified. David and Elizabeth were married 3/4/1794, seven years after reported birth of Elizabeth.
