Martin died of natural causes on 27 Oct 1927 at age 83 in Ballnorig with his wife at his side.[5]
Research Notes
Identity
This profile is specifically for Martin, the father of Patrick Delaney, who is first known through his son's marriage[6] but only by first name. The same document gives the first name of the mother as 'Mary.' The birth record for Patrick in Kerry confirms these names and supplies the maiden name for the mother - Hayes.[7]. Birth records from younger children such as John[8], Ellen[9], and James[10] all agree.
Birth
As the birth was before civil birth records were available and no baptismal record has been found, the census records[1][2] seem to be the most reliable indication of birth - at least for the time if not the place - and the two census records are consistent in their estimate with an imputed birth year of 1846. The death record,[5] however, shows an age of 83 in the year 1927 with the imputed birth year of 1844. Not at great variance.
Parents
The church marriage record names both the father, Patrick Delany, and the mother, Johanna Fogarty.
As yet, no marriage records have been found for the parents. We can observe the following, however:
Martin was present when his mother died in 1900 at the age of 88 and a widow.
There are some death records for men named Patrick Delaney who died prior to 1900, but civil records only went as far back as 1863.
1891,Listowel,age 74 (b. 1817),Lisduff,wife Mary present at death
1885,Tralee,age 66 (b. 1819)
1879,Tralee,age 71 (b. 1808)
No baptismal record was found for a Margaret Fogarty born 1812 but there is one for 1816. It would not be surprising to think that the death record was off by just a few years.
Martin was born circa 1844-46 or, more importantly, conceived circa 1843-45. Assuming his father was at least 18, Patrick would have been born on or before 1827. His wife was born circa 1812-16 and as most grooms were often older, and when younger, rarely more than three years, we can expect his date of birth around 1810 to 1819. A search of that range expanded ten years in both directions shows only five baptisms for boys named Patrick[11]
The most probable baptism is the one in 1817 and the most probable death was the one in 1885.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Martin by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Martin:
