Biography

Christian Delzer was a Black Sea German.

Birth

Christian was born on April 4, 1838 in the village of Johannestal in the Beresan district of the Odessa area and Black Sea region of South Russia to Michael Delzer and Dorothea (Gröler) Delzer. He was the last of their 9 children. Christian was baptized on April 17, 1838.^[1]

Family

On December 2, 1858, at the age of 20, Christian married Dorothea Eissenger (1839-1928) in Johannestal.^[2]

Immigration

On July 23, 1873, at the age of 35, Christian, his wife, and 6 children arrived in New York aboard the S.S. Westphalia traveling from Hamburg, Germany.^[3]

Death

On August 17, 1906, at the age of 68, Christian passed away in Hutchinson County, SD. He is buried in Johannestahl Cemetery in Menno, SD.^[4]
