Johann was born on July 19, 1864 in the village of Johannestal in the Beresan district of the Odessa area and Black Sea region of South Russia to Andreas Delzer Sr. and Anna Maria (Zimmermann) Delzer. He was the last of their 7 children. Adam was baptized in the Lutheran church in Johannestal on July 26, 1864.[1]
