At that time it was clear that Thomas Dent was then a bachelor of 41 years." [1] When the census was taken, he was 41 years old, with an estimated birth year of 1735. [2]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Thomas by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Thomas:

I agree this is a duplicate. My source, the Charles County Gentry, even lists some of the slave names that match with the list on Dent-469. All of the data for the Dent-1359 profile comes from this source, authored by Harry Wright Newman, which has several pages of information on Capt. Thomas Dent. On page 30, the first sentence states: "Thomas Dent [1735-1789], son of Peter Dent and Mary (Brooke) Dent, was born 1735 in St. John's Parish, Prince George's County."

NOTE: The Charles County Gentry only lists one wife: Elizabeth (Edelen) Dent. There is no mention of the other wife listed on Dent-469. So merging the two profiles would require this discrepancy to be solved.

Thomas and Elizabeth Edelen were married before 1776 (likely about 1773), for she is in his household (age 28) at the time of the August 1776 Census with 2 sons, George Fairfax Dent (age 2) and George Washington Dent (age 2 months). Her widowed mother. Salome, is on page 5 of the same census. If you will allow it, I would like to add this information to Thomas's profile, as well as adding the list of slaves from the same Census for the WikiTree US Black Heritage project. Of course you can make changes / additions to the Thomas Dent profile. I understand the Dents had a large slaveholder tradition, much to the displeasure of the Grants.

Steven,

Turns out there's (what I believe is) a duplicate profile. Can you look at Dent-469 and explain how you arrived at the parents you have? That seems to be the only difference. And your statement that "this" Thomas was single in 1776 simply isn't true, The actual census (linked above) shows 2 sons and a probable wife, Elizabeth.

Thanks! Carole
