Thomas Dent, son of Peter and Mary (Brooke) Dent, was born 1735 in St. John's Parish, Prince Georges County. [1]
"He was devised through the will of his brother-in-law, George Hardy, Jr., in 1773, a lot at Piscataway, being a portion of Pittsburg. [1]
"At the census of St. John and Prince George Parishes, taken by Thomas Dent about 1776, he had in his immediate household John Clarke aged 40, George Hardy aged 14, Judah Murray aged 35, 1 free Negro and 18 slaves. At that time it was clear that Thomas Dent was then a bachelor of 41 years." [1] When the census was taken, he was 41 years old, with an estimated birth year of 1735. [2]
He married afterwards [following 1776 census] Elizabeth Edelen, d/o James and Salome (Noble) Edelen. [1]
NOTE: This is not the Thomas Dent who m. Elizabeth Edwards. That Thomas Dent was b. ca 1730 and d. ca 1790; s/o George Dent, b. aft. 1674 St. Mary's County; s/o John and Mary (Hatch) Dent. [1]
"Thomas Dent Hardy, in his will dated 25 Feb 1780, devised his uncle, Thomas Dent, Traveler's Industry, then called Pittsburg, lying on the north fork of the Piscataway Creek adjoining the land of the said Thomas Dent. Thomas Dent Hardy had served in the naval service and was captured by the British in 1780, taken a prisoner to New York where he died in the Spring of 1781." [1]
Children of Thomas and Elizabeth Edelen Dent:
Thomas Dent died intestate in 1788 or 1789 and left a widow, Elizabeth Dent, and five minor children - two of whom in 1802 were deceased. [1]

NOTE: The Charles County Gentry only lists one wife: Elizabeth (Edelen) Dent. There is no mention of the other wife listed on Dent-469. So merging the two profiles would require this discrepancy to be solved.

Turns out there's (what I believe is) a duplicate profile. Can you look at Dent-469 and explain how you arrived at the parents you have? That seems to be the only difference. And your statement that "this" Thomas was single in 1776 simply isn't true, The actual census (linked above) shows 2 sons and a probable wife, Elizabeth.
Thanks! Carole
