Research Notes

An argument against Aaron Depuy-116 being the husband of Jemima Stroud-20 is that he supposedly died in 1773, which conflicts with the statement in Jemima's profile that Jemima's husband Aaron was executor of her will in 1791. It can pay to shake up the facts and see if anything comes loose. For instance, how solid is the proof Aaron Depuy-116 died in 1773, or was that just a rumor? Does Jemima's will specify her husband as executor, or does it just mention Aaron Depuy? There were several Aaron Depuys around. Aaron Depuy-37, nephew of Aaron Depuy-116, must have been born around the same time as Jemima and could well have been alive to be her executor in 1791. Since he doesn't seem to have a wife otherwise, it's possible he actually was Jemima's husband. There's enough Aaron Depuys it's difficult to pinpoint one. Meanwhile I don't see evidence to support Jemima having two different husbands named Aaron Depuy and I hope we don't have to leave her in that state. -Pauline Layton as of 5 Jun 2020.

  3. Elisabeth's mother is named, confusingly, as Jemima Harker. This is likely to be a copying error, somewhere along the line, and probably was meant to be Jemima Stroud. It may be our only hint that the same Aaron Depuy married both Rachel Harker and Jemima Stroud, but it is by no means definitive. The erring copyist may have gotten two Aaron Depuys mixed up. -PL
  4. Note that for now this son Aron is attached to a different Aaron as his father, pending further clarification on whom Jemima Stroud was really married to. It is possible that all the baptisms from Elisabeth on down should be on a different Aaron's page.

Maybe I haven't got the Aarons and their wives entirely straight yet, but there's still some complication here. Aaron and Jemima had an Aaron baptized in 1760 and a Samuel baptized in 1763. Maybe my theory wasn't ready for Prime Time.

Even so, Depuy-297 and Depuy-116 are still the same person.

Depuy-297 and Depuy-116 appear to represent the same person because: both born 1715 in Kingston, Ulster Co, NY. both died 1773 in Smithfield, Pennsylvania, and they have the same mother. See my previous comment with Depuy-116 for why Aaron Depuy-116 should only be married to Rachel Harker-9, while Jemima/Jennie Stroud should be married to Aaron's nephew, Depuy-37. If you work out a tree with all the dates, that's what makes sense.

Jemima (Stroud-29) Dupuy and Jennie (Stroud-20) Depuy appear to be the same person (but some of the facts need adjusting). Their husbands do not match so well; Aaron Depuy-116 is the uncle of Aaron Depuy-37. I suggest Jemima/Jennie married the nephew, not the uncle. And I suggest the uncle only married Rachel (Harker-9) Depuy The relative ages work out better that way. Possibly Samuel, Sarah and Rachel are Jemima/Jennie's kids, and the others belong to Rachel Harker Depuy and the Uncle Aaron Depuy-116 (and the Aaron sons need straightening out)..

Dupuy-93 and Depuy-116 appear to represent the same person because: Merge to preferred family spelling of surname, Depuy-116
