Biography

Jennie L. Diltz is born on July 14, 1886, the daughter of William H. Diltz (1852-1911) and Eliza Ann Nix (1860-1941) [1]. Most likely she is born in Franklinville, Cattaraugus County, New York State, USA. Franklinville is about 80 kilometres by road south of Buffalo.

Jennie is in the 1892 New York State census at the age of five living with her family in Franklinville [2] and she is there at the age of 12 in the federal census of 1900 [3]. She is still there at the age of 18 in the state census of 1905 [4]. This census record shows her occupation as a shoemaker.

On February 13, 1908, Jennie marries John Seth Myrick (1887-1948) in Franklinville [5][6]. John is a carpenter. They raise a family of six children:

• Harold M. Myrick 1908-1914

• Mary E. Myrick 1910-1973 + (1934) Henry Griffith Williams 1912-1980

• Gerald C. Myrick 1915-1981 + Ruth Unknown 1919-?

• Geraldine Isadore Myrick 1915-1981 + (1936) William A. Terhune 1912-1967

• Onilee Myrick 1918-1985 + Ellsworth Newton Whitcomb 1900-1977

• Lillian Myrick 1920-1985 + Stanley M. Lukasiak 1913-1991

In the 1910 census records, Jennie and John are living in Franklinville with their first two children [7]. But by the time of the 1920 census they have moved to Buffalo where John continues to work as a carpenter [8]. The now have four young children: Mary, Gerald, Geraldine and Onilee. By the time of the 1930 US census, they are back living in Franklinville [10].

Jennie dies on October 4, 1936, and she is buried in the Mount Prospect Cemetery, Franklinville [11]. John lives on until 1948 and he is buried with her.

[1] year of birth: the 1900 census record gives Jennie a birth date of July 1887 and various other sources agree with the year. However, her gravestone in the Mount Prospect Cemetery, Franklinville shows 1886-1936. And the find-a-grave website notes the birth as July 14, 1886. The fact that the marriage licence issued in Jan 1908 shows her age as 21 indicates that 1886 is the correct year.
