Biography

Annie Dinges was born 26 July 1864 and died 27 July 1959. She is buried at Fort Lincoln Cemetery next to her sons Joe and Clarence and Clarence’s wife Thelma. Annie was the daughter of German immigrants Karl 'Charles’ Dinges and Elizabeth (Allen) Bauer.

The 1910 census states Annie gave birth to 11 children with 7 living at that time. I have documentation for Karl Charles Lechleuter (1892-1892), Louis Lechleuter (1893), and Annie Lechleuter (1898). There is a 4 year cap between Leo (1894) and Annie (1898) that needs to be researched closer for the fourth deceased child.

My father remembered his grandmother would walk the railroad tracks from Bladensburg to Tuxedo or down Bladensburg road to 15th and H St., to do sewing for different people. She liked her beer, when she could get it, and would eat the cream off the buttermilk like it was ice cream. After her husband died, she lived with her daughter Pauline for a while, then her son Leo until his death. When she got older she moved in with her other son "Boots" and his family.

The Washington Post: July 30 1959

Leckliter, Anna, of 6202 State St., Cheverly, Md. on July 27, 1959, wife of the late John W. Leckliter, mother of Mrs. James McKenny, Frederick, Joseph, George, and Clarence Leckliter: sister of William Dinges. Prayers at Chambers Funeral Home, 5801 Cleveland Ave., Riverdale, Md. On Friday, July 31 at 8:45 a.m. Mass at 5 Ambrose Church, Cheverly, Md., at 9:30 a.m. Interment Fort Lincoln Cemetery.

According to the Dinges family bible Anna was born 07/26/1864. The date was handwritten along with all the other births and deaths recorded. Her 1910 census age is off by 2 years, the 1920 census is correct, I haven’t found the 1930 census, the 1940 census is off by 11 years, and her death notices is off by 13 years. If Annie married William in 1886 as the marriage documents states and she was 82 when she died, she would have been 9 years old when married.

By my calculations and documents Anna was 95 when she died, not 82.
