Nathan Dixon III is Notable.

This Nathan Fellows Dixon was born 28 Aug 1847 in Westerly, Rhode Island. He was the second child of Nathan Fellows Dixon II and Harriet Palmer Swan, and was a namesake for his earlier (1845) born sibling who died in infancy.

He graduated A.B. Brown University 1869; studied law at Westerly, Rhode Island, with his father as a teacher, then graduated LL.B. at Albany law school [now State University of New York at Albany], in 1871. Practiced law at his hometown, Westerly.

He married 5 Jun 1873 at Albany, New York, Grace McClure.

In 1877 he was appointed by President Grant as U.S. District Attorney for Rhode Island, then re-appointed by President Garfield in 1881. Elected in 1885 as U.S. Congressional Representative, 2nd district, to fill unexpired term of Hon. Jonathan Chace. Represented Westerly in Rhode Island Senate. Elected to U.S. Senate in April 1889, serving one term.

Nathan Fellows Dixon passed away in 1897 in Westerly, Rhode Island. His grave is in River Bend Cemetery, Westerly, Washington County, Rhode Island, USA: Find A Grave: Memorial #7668234
