Nathan Doan was the first child born to Ebenezer Doane and his second wife, Elizabeth Dix. His birth is recorded as being January 15, 1811.<1> He was born in Cadiz, Henry County, Indiana. <3>
Ebenezer and his first wife, Elizabeth had eight children, Hannah, Ephraim, Rachel, William, Ann, Sarah, Mahlon, Jonathan. Three more children were born to Elizabeth Dix, George Washington, Abigail, and Zachariah.
Just prior to 1812 the Quakers had called on their people to move out of the slave states, but migration was interrupted by the War of 1812. When the war ended, there was a migration of Quakers to Indiana. Ebenezer's brother sold his plantation because of his distaste for the slavery issue.<1>

Reported lIfe spans for Ebenezar's children: Hannah Doane Davis (1791 - 1826), Ephriam Doan (1793 - 1867), Nancy Ann Doan Tomlinson (1800 - 1890), Sarah Doan Stout (1802 - 1865), Mahlon Elwood Doan (1804 - 1894), Jonathan Doan (1806 - 1833); Children by second wife, Elizabeth Dix: Nathan (1811 - ), George Washington Doan (1813 - 1883), Abigail Doan Brown (1820 - 1851), and Zachariah Doan (unknown).
Nathan Doan married Phoebe Gilllum in Fayette, Wayne County, Indiana in 1830.
Nathan died in 1847. Nathan was interred the 3rd mo; 7th day, 1847 in Friends Cemetery, now White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville, Indiana.
