There may be a possibility that James is actually the son of [[Doane-430|Hezekiah Doane] and Sarah (Bland) Doan. Not likely as father born in 1737 and would have been 39, and the children they already had were 10 years older than James.

He married married Mary (Polly) Woolsey, daughter of Zephaniah and Sarah Woolsey, on February 26th, 1798, in Greene Co., Tennessee. He and Polly both died circa 1829 in Buncombe, North Carolina, United States. [2]
