George Dobson was born 2 May 1845 on John Street, Ancoats, Manchester, Lancashire, England.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7] He was the son of Eliza Cresswell and James Dobson.
George and his young family immigrated to the United States, traveling from England on the ship Helvetia, and arrived at Castle Garden, New York City, New York, on 14 Aug 1868. He and Mary had ten more children in the United States. Their eleven children are:
George continued to work in the coal mines in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne, Pennsylvania. He died of miner's asthma on 27 Feb 1911 in Wilkes-Barre.[10] He was buried 1 Mar 1911 in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township, Luzerne, Pennsylvania.[11]
