Daniel Dodd was born in Wixoe, Sussex England in 1615. His parents were Thomas and Katherine Dodd.[1]
Daniel Dodd arrived in Connecticut before1644, when he married Mary ____. [2]
Another source also lists his wife as Mary ___, married about 1646 in Branford. [3]
Torrey speculates that his wife's surname was Wheeler and lists her name in brackets meaning it did not come from marriage record. Specifically he lists as sources (In addition to the Bethuel Lewis Dodd (1864). The American Genealogist 12:101, and Charlotte Stevens Holmes, A Genealogy of the Lineal Descendants of John Steevens, Who Settled in Guilford, Conn., in 1645,[4][5] However, the TAG article only lists her death date and name as Mary Dodd, wife of Daniel and the Holmes work states her name as "Wheeler" with no sources listed so likely referenced the same 1864 work.
A Branford probate court record of 1665 (see below), when discussing the distribution of the Daniel's estate, note that "there are 5 children besides Mary ..."[11]
One of the first settlers of Branford, New Haven
Daniel was named in Branford records from 7 July 1646 (dividing up the meadows ) [12] and 16 September 1646 (constructing a 5-mile fence around the core part of the town)[13]
A court record from Branford recounts a series of indiscretions committed by Mary Dod for which the court ruled that "Mary Dod to be whipt by her father in the presance of some of the Court".[14]
In 1663 Daniel's house in Branford was assessed as being worth 10 pounds.[15]
Death and probate
"Mary Dod wife to Danill Dod died May 36: 57" in Branford.[16]
A probate record from Branford shows that Daniel died before 4 April 1665.[17]
An undated inventory, recorded in New Haven, valued his estate at 146 pounds including a house and land worth 40 pounds.[18]
The Branford probate record from 4 April 1665 referred to Mary, Hanna, Daniell and Ebenezer as orphans, "some of them very small and poorely clothed ...." The court appointed Richard Lawrence and Lawrence Ward as guardians.[19]
In 1667, Daniel Dod Jr "of Newark", then 22 years old, sold to John Rogers, for an unspecified sum of money, the Branford properties in the estate of Daniel Dod deceased -- including a 2-acre home lot and house.[20]

I have to clarify his wife's name a bit, there is no actual source for her name as "Wheeler". That idea comes from the Bethuel Dodd work of 1864 (also quoted by the later work by Allison Dodd). Bethuel quotes the will of Daniel's son Stephen which gave a cow to his "cousin Mary Wheeler who lived with him". Bethuel thus speculates that Daniel's wife, and therefore Stephen's mother was perhaps "Wheeler". However, as we know, "cousin" could mean a lot of things back then including niece, sister-in-law etc. So Torrey, nor anyone else, apparently has any primary source that Daniel's wife was "Wheeler".
