Biography

1776 Project
Fortunatus Dodson performed Patriotic Service in Virginia in the American Revolution.

Fortunatus Dodson was born the 31st March 1740, in North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia. Fortunatus was the son of George Dodson Sr and Margaret Dagood.[1]

Fortunatus married Margaret (Peggy) Dodson sometime before 1766, when their son David Dodson was born in Virginia.[2]

Fortunatus and Margaret Dodson were the parents of the following known children: (1) David Dodson, born about 1766 in Virginia; (2) Lydia Dodson, born about 1768; (3) Sarah Dodson, born 24 July 1773, Pittsylvania County, Virginia; (4) Deborah Dodson, born about 1775, Pittsylvania County, Virginia.[3]

Fortunatus made his will on the 2nd of October 1776, and left to his wife Margaret, all the estate during her natural life. To son David all the land at the death of his mother, and to daughters Liddie, Sarah and Deborah Dodson all the moveable estate equally. Executors were Jesse Dodson and Elisha Dodson Jr.[4]

Fortunatus died sometime before the 22nd of May 1777 when his will was probated in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.
