Biography

Benjamin Franklin Dodson was born on the 6th of June, 1845, Georgia. Benjamin is the son of Stephen Dodson and Amy Margaret Brown

Benjamin appears in the 1850 Federal census in Fayette County, Georgia, in the household of his father Stephen Dodson.

Benjamin enlisted in the Confederacy in July, 1863, in Company D, 44th Georgia Infantry. Benjamin stated in his pension application that he was captured three days before Lee's surrender and was kept in prison at Newport News, VA until July, 1865.[1]

Benjamin married on the 11th of October, 1866, Margaret Hannah Clark, daughter of Solomon Clark and Mary Campbell.[2]

Benjamin appears in the 1870 Federal census in Clayton County, Georgia. Benjamin's household is listed as follows: Benjamin, age 25; Margaret H., age 23; and Ollie, age 6 months.[3]

Benjamin appears in the 1880 Federal census in Clayton County, Georgia, in District 548. Benjamin's household is listed as follows: Benjamin F., age 34; Margaret H., age 32; Olive, age 10; Eulah, age 8; Ruth, age 6; Caty, age 5; Dorah, age 2; and Samuel T, 9 months.[4]

Benjamin appears in the 1900 Federal census in Clayton County, Georgia. Benjamin's household is listed as follows: Benjamin, age 54 - June 1845; Margaret, age 52 - June 1847, and Margaret is listed as being the mother of 8 children with 7 children living; Fannie, age 19 - April 1881; and Clark, Fannie, age 60 - March 1840 - sister-in-law.[5]

Benjamin appears in the 1920 Federal census in Clayton County, Georgia, enumerated on the 3rd day of January, 1920. Benjamin's household is listed as follows: Benjamin, age 74; Margaret, age 72; and Clark, Fannie, age 76 - sister-in-law.[6]

Benjamin died on the 20th of September, 1920, in Clayton County, Georgia.[7] Benjamin is buried at Jones Memorial Cemetery, Forest Park, Clayton County, Georgia.[8]
