U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
Thomas Doggett was a Virginia colonist.

Thomas was born circa 1715 to Benjamin Doggett and his second wife Mary.[1][2][3]

He married Bathscheba around 1739.[3] They moved to Caroline County around 1753.[3]

Thomas died around 1774.[3]

DNA

Paternal relationship is confirmed through Y-chromosome DNA testing at FTDNA, Sinclair Doggett and his 6th cousin once removed Lowry Doggett, match at a Genetic Distance of 7 on 111 markers thereby confirming their direct paternal lines back to their MRCA Benjamin Doggett Jr.

Research Notes

Thomas was born in Lancaster County and died in Caroline County. It would be interesting to learn when he made the move and what property he purchased in Caroline County. One can see that he and Batsheba sold land in Lancaster County on 16 Nov 1753 to Solomon Ewell.[4] James Dean Doggett writes that they moved in the 1750s,[3] which seems to support the sale of land.
Residence: Christ Church Parrish, Lancaster, Virginia[5]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Thomas by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Thomas:

Matching DNA tests can only be used to confirm BACK TO the Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA) of the two matching test takers, but not to parents or other more distant ancestors of the MRCA. If Arthur Doggett-828 (born 1820) is the MRCA, that match cannot be use to support this man's relationship to his father.

I’ve changed the ‘confirmed with DNA’ entry on this profile to ‘confident’ for you. Please let me know if you don’t understand or if you have any questions. Thanks!

The MRCA was wrong and DNA confirmed is appropriate

Parental relationship has been changed from ‘confirmed with DNA’ to ‘confident’ because using matching DNA from 2 siblings and a distant cousin is not an approved method of triangulation on WikiTree. See this page that states “If a relationship is supported with DNA evidence but cannot be considered confirmed using one of the approved methods use the Confident status instead of Confirmed with DNA.”: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Confirmed_with_DNA#Genealogy_Supported_by_DNA_but_not_Confirmed_with_DNA

Doggett-334 and Doggett-298 appear to represent the same person because: The father and wife match. The birth and death dates are nearly identical.
