| Ruth (Unknown) Porter migrated to New England during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640). Join: Puritan Great Migration Project Discuss: pgm |
Internet errors claim her surname was Dorcet. Her suname is unknown at this time because of lack of reliable sources for Dorcet. If evidence for that surname come to light in the future, it may be reapplied following discussion with the PGM project.
Richard Porter married in Weymouth, about 1634/35, a woman who's name is, actually, unknown. Three different sources confirm this. Torrey in "New England Marriages Prior to 1700"[1] states her name as unproven to be Ruth. Both, "The Great Migration: Immigrants to New England, 1634-1635"[2] and "A genealogy of the descendants of Richard Porter"[3] never list her name at all. The fact that so many online trees list her last name as Dorset may be further proof that he was from Dorset, England, but this is only speculation.
