Info from “The Dorland Enigma, by Barbara Barth:

James Krotzer Dorland, b. 24 Sept. 1834; m. 21 Sept. 1858, Lydia Copley, res. Wadsworth, OH.

I believe this is my great great grandfather. But can’t seem to connect solidly to my tree. My grand father was William Jacob Durling 1897-1952 who died in Amherst Ohio,

Who changed the name from Dorland to Durling? Was it my great grandfather William Gerret Durling, b. 1867, and died 1916 in Wadsworth Ohio.

Hi Sherrie,

From what I see in my family tree on ancestry and other sites, you and I are 8th cousins once removed. ;-) We share Gerrit Lambertse Dorland (son of Lambert Jansen) as an ancestor. My branch also went through Pennsylvania and Ohio before moving to Nebraska. I see yours went to Iowa, and then to DC. My ancestor was Jan Lambertse (sometimes listed as John Jan) Dorlandt, son of Lambert. Some trees have him confused with the son of Jan Gerritsen Dorland, the *other* Dorland branch, and mix up or combine their children. I'll be in touch after I sort out getting my Dorland branch gedcom up on wikitree.

Was doing some research on your Dorland's (the Long connection should hook into my line from Pennsylvania) and found this...Recommended source: The Dorland Enigma Solved: A Revision of the Dorland Genealogy by Barbara A. Barth Publisher: Diane Barth Swartz; 1st edition Language: English ISBN-10: 0615133711 ISBN-13: 978-0615133713. It is priced at $38.00 new, hardback, leatherbound.

If you find any additional info on Elizabeth Betsy, send it my way and I will see what I can find for her.

Also, if you can, it is a really great idea to not abbreviate locations, as we are international and not everyone knows what our state abreviations are...also a country helps others too.  :) This above book looks great, I searched but it is still copyrighted..library? Thanks! Nae
