Biography

MARGARET SHERMAN DORR (aka DOER) married William Quiner in 1797 at Boston, Massachusetts.[1]

Daughter of Nathan Dorr and Margaret (Odin) Dorr. Her maiden name is occasionally spelled "Doer" in records. Margaret was baptized at the Hollis St. Church in Boston on 11 Sep 1774. Mother of Henry Newcomb Quiner and thus great-grandmother of Laura Elizabeth (Ingalls) Wilder, author of the "Little House" series of children's books. She married William Quiner on 9 April 1797 in New Haven, Connecticut. With him she had 13 children between 1798 and 1818. Four of their younger children left Connecticut, eventually settling in Wisconsin Territory after stops in Ohio and Indiana.

Margaret S. Quiner is recorded as having owned a plot in the New Haven City Burial Ground, now Grove Street Cemetery. The plot may be that of her son John Quiner.

Mrs. Quiner appears on an 1850 United States census record in the household of Alexander and Margaret McGregor in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Margaret McGregor was formerly Margaret Quiner and was Mrs. Quiner's daughter.

Doer-7 and Dorr-704 appear to represent the same person because: These appear to be for the same person, with different surname spellings.
